Prevent Workplace Slip and Fall Accidents during National Safety Month

Slip Fall Accident Prevent Workplace Slip and Fall Accidents during National Safety MonthThroughout the United States, thousands of workers are injured each year while on the job, with slip and fall accidents ranking among the top reported causes of unintentional injuries. To help promote hazard prevention in the workplace and at home, the National Safety Council (NSC) has designated June as National Safety Month. While no workplace is entirely free of risks, both employers and employees can take steps to create a safe work environment and reduce slip and fall accidents as much as possible.

The following tips have been issued by the NSC as part of the slips, trips, and falls week:

  • Keep walkways and stairs open and accessible by removing clutter.
  • Provide adequate lighting both indoors and outdoors.
  • If there is a spill or tripping hazard that cannot be immediately removed, place warning signs to alert others of the possible danger.
  • Install handrails and guardrails on stairways and porches to prevent falls.
  • Keep electrical cords out of high traffic areas.

National Safety Month acts as a necessary reminder that employers and employees share responsibilities for keeping workplaces safe year-round. Employers are required by state and federal law to ensure that their worksite meets safety and health standards at all times, while employees may anonymously report safety issues to Cal/OSHA in order to enforce and administer safety regulations.
