Theresa Bowen-Hatch

Theresa is a dedicated trial lawyer. She devotes her practice solely to plaintiffs’ personal injury cases, with an emphasis on catastrophic personal injury and brain injury. She brings justice to ordinary people through hard work, preparation, and a commitment to the ethics of the legal profession.

Theresa has recovered more than $48 million for her clients. She has worked with many of the top lawyers in California and now runs her own boutique law practice, focusing on select injury cases. She represents people – not insurance companies or corporations. If the insurance companies won’t pay full case value, she takes her cases to trial.

Theresa has recovered more than $48 million for injured clients and has litigated against Ford, Toyota, Johnson & Johnson, Southwest Airlines, Home Depot, various transit authorities, municipalities, government entities, businesses and most major insurance companies.

Theresa has been involved in many high-profile cases. She was part of the team representing the surviving family members of California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Saylor, Cleofe Lastrella Saylor, Mahala Saylor and Chris Lastrella in their claim against Toyota. The family was tragically killed when their loaner Lexus accelerated out of control in San Diego County in August 2009. Their story gained international attention, was the focus of Congressional testimony in Washington, D.C. and was the catalyst for the largest vehicle recall in U.S. history at that time.

Theresa was also part of the team that took on Johnson & Johnson and DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. in the first recalled DePuy ASR orthopaedic hip implant case taken to trial. She traveled extensively in Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota to uncover the story of this defective medical device.

Before pursuing a career in law, Theresa worked as a print and broadcast writer for the Associated Press and as a television news reporter in Baltimore and San Diego.

She is a graduate of the University of Virginia, a cum laude graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and a graduate of Gerry Spence’s Full Length Trial Lawyer’s College in Wyoming.

Theresa is admitted to practice law in all California state courts, in the United States District Court for the Southern and Central Districts of California, and in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. She was named one of the San Diego Daily Transcript’s Top Young Attorneys in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and was named one of the San Diego Daily Transcript’s Top Attorneys in the Personal Injury field in 2014. She has been named the “Best of the Bar” in the Personal Injury field by the San Diego Business Journal and has been named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers.

Theresa’s commitment to helping those in need goes beyond her profession. Theresa has taken on significant leadership roles in the community. She serves on the Lawyers Club Community Outreach Committee, where she is helping to identify and implement structural and aesthetic improvements to facilities housing organizations that promote the health and well-being of women and children.
