Excedrin, NoDoz, Bufferin and Gas-X Prevention Recall Issued by Novartis

Swiss drug manufacturer Novartis is recalling some bottles of Excedrin, NoDoz, Bufferin, and Gas-X due to the possibility of broken and chipped pill contaminants from other medications in addition to incorrect bottle packaging that could lead to pills getting mixed up.

A USA Today article reports that the drug recall comes after the drug maker’s announcement that it will be temporarily stopping production at is Lincoln, Nebraska plant because of “maintenance and other improvement activities.”

Even though there haven’t been reports of serious incidents, the medication recall is serious in that consumers could potentially be exposed to medications that they may be allergic to or that may become hazardous when mixed with other pharmaceuticals. The products being recalled include:

  • Excedrin and NoDoz products with expiration dates of Dec. 20, 2014 or earlier.
  • Bufferin and Gas-X Prevention products with expiration dates of Dec. 20, 2013 or earlier.

Consumers are being advised to stop consumption of these products. Consumers can discard of the products properly or mail them to Novartis for a full refund, including shipping costs. Novartis can be contacted at (888) 477-2403 Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST.
