Contaminated Rubber Causes Tire Recalls across Several Brands

California Tire Recall LawyersTire manufacturer Cooper Tire & Rubber Company and its subsidiaries TBC Corporation and Del-Nat Tire Corporation have all issued recalls within the past several weeks for SUV and light truck tires due to the danger of tread separation, each of which sites rubber contamination as the reason behind the defect. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), each of these recalls are nationwide in scope; however, all have been traced back to the manufacturer’s Texarkana, Arkansas plant and total 10,236 tires.

Each recall states that contaminated rubber may have been used specifically in the tread compound, which could lead to early life tread separation and cause a serious car accident. The nature of the defect has caused the companies to enact a recall on all possibly affected products. Production dates range from December 2011 through January 2012, with 448 tires under the Del-Nat brand and 943 under the TBC brand. Recalled tires are:

  • Cooper Discover H/T, size LT235/85R16
  • Cooper Discover H/T, size P26570R17
  • Cooper Discover LSX, size 265/70R17
  • Cooper Mastercraft Courser HTR, size LT235/85R16
  • Del-Nat Delta A/S Sierradial, size 265/70R17
  • Del-Nat National A/S Commando, size 265/70R17
  • Pep Boys Definity Dakota H/T, size P265/70R17
  • TBC Sigma Stampede Radial SUV, size P265/70R17

Owners of the recalled tires will be notified of the recall and can have their tires replaced without charge and will also receive a free mounting and balancing from dealers. Owners affected by this recall (NHTSA Campaign ID Number 12T010000) can call Cooper’s Consumer Relations Department at (800) 854-6288.
