Rider Killed in Successive Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents can be devastating – for the motorcyclists, their families, witnesses and others involved in the accident, as was seen in a recent local accident.

A motorcycle rider crashed into the back of a pickup truck at the intersection of East El Norte Parkway and North Rose Street, and was thrown off his bike. Moments after, a white long-nose semi-hauling truck passed by and ran over him. The driver did not stop at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the pickup truck in the first crash was not injured, but the motorcycle rider succumbed to his injuries at the accident site.

Investigation of the Motorcycle Accident

Police investigators searched for and found the driver of the big rig that ran over the motorcycle rider. While the truck showed signs of involvement in an accident, the driver was apparently unaware that his truck had run over the rider.

Police also mentioned that they found no evidence of alcohol or drug use on the deceased motorcyclist.

Responsibility for Motorcycle Accident

A motorcycle collision can have serious or fatal consequences particularly when the other vehicle involved is a big one such as truck or trailer. Even with a motorcycle helmet, a rider can suffer spinal cord injury, lost limbs, and traumatic brain injury as a result of an accident.

Collecting all of the evidence soon after an accident has occurred is essential in determining legal responsibility for a rider’s injuries. If the rider appeared not to have slowed down at the intersection, an examination of the motorcycle parts and components may reveal the proximate cause of the accident. A medical expert’s opinion may also be necessary to determine the role and responsibility of the second truck in the death of the rider.

Depending on the circumstances surrounding the successive collisions, the family of the deceased motorcycle rider may be entitled to compensation for the death of the rider.
