Keeping Your Home Burn Hazard Free

Burn Injury HazardsBurns are some of the most difficult injuries for a victim to completely recover from. Unfortunately, the accidents that cause these are often unpredictable and happen without a moment’s notice. But while these accidents only take seconds to occur, there are many dangers leading to them that may be present for an extended period of time.

At Carpenter, Zuckerman & Rowley, our San Diego burn victim lawyers understand that a large portion of dangers are within homes. As such, we want everyone to stay safe and prevent injuries by staying aware of and eliminating any of these hazards when possible.

  • Hazardous Chemicals: Most homes have various types of cleaning fluids that use chemicals, which can cause major burns if they touch the skin. Lock these up securely if children are in the house or consider using more natural products that are not as hazardous.
  • Exposed Wiring: Frayed wires in appliances or those that are exposed in walls due to damage can electrocute those that touch them, causing serious burns. Unplug damaged appliances and call repair workers for home hazards.
  • Unprotected Sockets: Use socket plugs if small children live on the property. This will prevent them from sticking their fingers or other items in the socket and being shocked.
  • Water Heater Temperatures: Should water get too hot in sinks, bathtubs, or showers, people may be scalded. If you adjust the water heater to not reach temperatures higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit in order to not reach the scalding point.
  • Open Flames: Candles, unprotected fireplaces, and stovetop flames can cause burns and catch clothes on fire. Keep these protected and in areas where residents will not casually come into contact with them.
  • Hot Objects: Due to various actions, objects may be extremely hot without the knowledge of others. After cooking, cool down pots and pans and keep them out of the way to prevent contact.
