October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). In tribute to the friends, family, and clients of the legal team at Carpenter, Zuckerman & Rowley who have been affected by breast cancer, we are making a donation to the Breast Cancer Fund.
During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, organizations and agencies from around the country collaborate to promote awareness and provide information on the disease, as well as help provide better access to services. NBCAM has been promoting breast cancer awareness for more than 25 years and is still dedicated to bettering treatment and awareness across the country.
The Breast Cancer Fund is focused on preventing breast cancer through eliminating toxic chemical and radiation exposure, which has been shown to cause the disease. Through educating the public and using advocacy campaigns, the fund has sought to eliminate the use of various hazardous materials that can cause breast cancer for more than 20 years and has struck major victories in preventing breast cancer.
Statistics indicate that approximately one out of every eight women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer at some point in life. An estimated 280,000 women in the U.S. were diagnosed with breast cancer during 2011, with approximately 39,520 women expected to die.
