Attorney Nicholas C. Rowley of the law firm of Carpenter, Zuckerman & Rowley has been nominated as a finalist for the 2012 Consumer Attorney of the Year award by Consumer Attorneys of California. The nomination stems from a successful court case earlier this year wherein Attorney Rowley represented a three-year-old girl who had suffered cerebral palsy caused by serious birth injuries in 2009 at the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.
The young girl suffered brain damage during birth after a four-hour-long second stage of labor. Although her heart rate continued to drop, doctors were negligent in both their actions and the time they took to assist in the birth.
The case resulted in the first medical malpractice jury verdict against a doctor in San Luis Obispo in more than 20 years. In total, the young girl and her parents received $74,525,000 for past and future medical expenses, as well as lost wages and emotional trauma. The verdict is ranked as one of the “Largest California Jury Verdicts” of 2012 by VerdictSearch.
Consumer Attorneys of California is made up of nearly 3,000 attorneys who represent those who have suffered from another person or organization’s wrongdoing. The organization works to keep state courts fair and balanced and ensure the rights of both attorneys and the plaintiffs they represent.
