Choking Hazard Recall Issued for Britax Child Car Seats

Approximately 60,000 child car seats have been recalled by Britax Child Safety, Inc. in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) due to a choking hazard that could seriously harm child passengers. Britax has found that the chest pad may cause choking dangers as it is made of a softer material that may come off in pieces if bitten by a child.

Britax seats sold in the United States that are being recalled are the Boulevard 70-G3, Advocate 70-G3, and Pavilion 70-G3. Seats sold in Canada have also been recalled. These are the Boulevard 65-G3, Pavilion 65-G3, and Advocate 65-G3. The recalled products can be identified by the model number and manufacture date on the product’s tag, located on the child’s upper left hand side. Recalled products were manufactured from June 2012 through August 2012.

Owners of the product are advised to remove the current chest pad to prevent choking dangers, although the product is still usable without the pad. Customers with registered seats will receive a repair kit in the mail free of charge, while those who are not registered can call Britax at (888) 427-4829 to request a replacement. The replacement HUGS pads are made from a firmer material that will resist biting from child passengers.
