Last October, CZ&R Client Diane Uzelac was on the verge of death after a serious heart attack from the congenital heart defect condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), which has been known to cause sudden death. Now, Diane and her daughter Heidi will be serving as chairman and co-chairman of the Beverly Hills HeartChase, a community event by the American Heart Association occurring on Saturday, June 16 at the Beverly Hills Civic Center Plaza at 9 a.m. which aims to raise support for fighting heart disease and stroke.
HCM, a disease of the heart’s muscles, not only has very few symptoms, but can be passed down from generation to generation. As such, Diane’s daughters have a 50% chance that they will develop HCM. The disease lead to cardiac arrest for Diane, a client of Carpenter, Zuckerman & Rowley, but thankfully she received a dual implant defibrillator/pacemaker four days later, which has helped protect her from further incidents caused by the disease.
The Beverly Hills HeartChase on June 16 is not only a chance to raise funds for heart disease treatment, but is an incredibly fun event for the whole family. During the event, participants will compete in a community-wide race that involves finding clues, completing fun challenges, and solving puzzles. It is $25 for each participant and $15 for participants 18 years old or younger and everyone is encouraged to fundraise for the event, which hopes to raise $53,000.
Diane stated, “It is such a great honor to be the chairman of the inaugural HeartChase event here in my hometown. Too many people are dying of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases in our community, but we have the power to change this.”
The law team at Carpenter, Zuckerman & Rowley is proud of everything that Diane, her family, and the American Heart Association are doing for those suffering from heart conditions and will be donating $1,000 to the Beverly Hills HeartChase this weekend.
