Dana Point Car Crash Kills Three Camp Pendleton San Diego Marines, Injures One

Dana Point Car Crash Kills Three Camp Pendleton San Diego Marines, Injures OneAccording to ABC7, a high-speed Orange county auto accident claimed the lives of three Camp Pendleton Marines. On Tuesday, February 14, the four Marines were driving through Dana Point around 2 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle and the car slammed into a palm tree on Terra Vista and Golden Lantern. An investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash is ongoing, though a spokesman for the Orange County Sherriff’s Department explains that law enforcement believes the driver lost control of the car due to excessively high speeds, subsequently hitting a curb, then the tree. Officials will also look into the possibility of the crash being alcohol-related, though presently, unsafe speed seems to be the primary cause of the collision.

Each of the car accident victims were active-duty Marines at California’s Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego. Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while one passed away at the hospital. The driver of the vehicle who was the sole survivor of the crash, reportedly a male in his 20s, is currently in intensive care at Mission Hospital listed in critical condition. A makeshift memorial at the scene of the accident was quickly growing throughout the Valentine’s Day holiday on Tuesday. The names of each of the Marines and their hometowns were not released pending notification of the next of kin.
